Ajax – What is it?

Ajax, or “Asynchronous JavaScript and XML”, is one of my favourite web technologies. Ajax is a client-side script (JavaScript/jQuery) that allows a web page to communicate back and forth with a server or database without the need to reload a page in its entirety.

What Makes Ajax So Awesome?

There are a lot of benefits to using Ajax, the main one being that it increases the speed, performance, and usability of a web service. Essentially, what ajax allows us to do is send and receive a request to/from a server, receive the response, and make updates to the structure of a page in real-time without the need for the end user to reload the page.
