Opera released “Reborn” their browser for the future earlier this year. Reborn features a native ad-blocker and VPN which could sway some people to install Opera. Opera Reborn has a new UI (user interface) that is modern, simple and refined. The entire UI has been updated with a high-quality graphical design that is more consistent across platforms. Opera has always been at the bottom of the food chain when it comes to modern web browsers. While Google Chrome has dominated the browser market ever since dethroning Internet Explorer. In the past few years, Chrome has been dominating the browser market with over 50% of all users now on Chrome. While for comparison Opera has always been less than 5% of all users. Opera really has nothing to lose since they have been losing traffic ever since their inception in 1995. Opera’s Reborn browser can only help Opera get more traffic.
Opera is the first modern browser to release both a native ad-blocker and a VPN in the browser. Making there no need to install third-party extensions to your browser for blocking ads or connecting to a third party VPN service. Both of which slow down your browsing.
From Neon to Reborn
Opera Neon is the experimental modern browser with a brand new UI (User Interface) that Opera has been testing with. Neon has integrated popular social messengers directly in the sidebar and many other key innovative features. Neon is a modern new design which looked completely different from any other browsers UI. Opera learned a lot from project Neon and have been using the key features from Neon to their new Opera browser. Opera used the best parts of Neon are being brought to the new Opera browser, codenamed Reborn. Operas browser which has been “Reborn” with key new features that have not yet been released on any other modern browser. Which makes Opera way more attractive to many users.
Opera Native Ad Blocker
Opera native ad-blocker is faster than Mozilla Firefox or Google Chrome with an Ad Blocker Plus extension installed. This isn’t that surprising since those browsers have to load the webpage with the third-party ad-blocker. While Opera with the native ad-blocker does not have to go through and extension in the browser.
Opera uses EasyList to block the lists of intrusive ads and EasyPrivacy to stop know trackers all native in Operas browser. Opera blocks ads as early as when a network request for a URL is first being made. This seems like direction all modern browsers have to go in the future. Google Chrome also announced they will release their own ad-blocker in early 2018. Forcing the ad companies to push out standardized ads that are not intrusive to users.
Opera Native VPN
Opera was able to release a fully functioning and tested VPN because of their acquisition of Toronto based company SurfEasy. SurfEasy was founded in 2011 and was acquired by Opera March 2016. The native VPN in Opera allows for an optimal virtual location to be selected based on network speed, latency, location, and server capacity. When in automatic location mode, browsing via the VPN is always at maximum available speed. Or they allow you to select the location you desire.
VPN Virtual Locations Available Countries:
- Canada
- USA
- Germany
- Netherlands
- Singapore
Almost all VPN requires a subscription that has monthly or annual fees, which makes the service unused by most people. Most people don’t even know what a VPN is or stands for. Also, the majority of people who do know what a VPN is, don’t use it because of financial reasons. In addition, there is a small learning curve that might be to much for some people. Plus a third party VPN service adds another step to the process of getting to the internet which is not necessary. So VPN has been a niche market for the security minded that want to protect their information.
